ENplus – Whole chain certification for wood pellets
The ENplus® scheme was initiated in 2010 and developed for assuring the quality of wood pellets for small furnaces. Today more than 1100 certified companies participate in the scheme.

ENplus® scheme
About the scheme
ENplus pellet certification contributes to increasing consumer confidence and strengthening the wood pellet market in Europe, in line with international requirements that are widely recognized by the industry. Control Union is an internationally accredited certification and inspection body for audits under this scheme.
Procedures for Obtaining ENplus® Certification
To obtain ENplus® certification, the company must follow these steps:
-
Filling in the Application Form The company must complete the application form corresponding to its business model (producer, distributor or service provider).
-
Initial Inspection A Control Union auditor will carry out an initial inspection, covering all the company’s facilities. During this inspection, samples will be taken for analysis and an audit report will be drawn up based on the results obtained.
-
Verification of Conformity The independent Certification Body, in this case Control Union, will assess whether the applicant company complies with the ENplus® requirements, issuing a Conformity Report. This report will be sent to the applicant and to System Management. In the case of Portugal, the documentation will be sent to the National Licensor.
-
Issuing Certification and Licensing Once the fees have been paid and the bag layout has been approved (where applicable), System Management will send the company the kit for using the ENplus® trademark.
How long does the certification process take?
- The certification process generally takes approximately 2 to 3 months to complete.
- However, this period can vary depending on the particularities of the business, such as the existence of multiple factories or facilities, as well as the degree of preparation of the applicant company.
- These factors can influence the length of the process, making it quicker or longer.
Which fuels are Eligible for ENplus® Certification?
- ENplus® certification applies exclusively to wood pellets and does not cover other types of fuel.
